Real-world, collaborative training opportunities are a hallmark of Emerson College’s Communication Disorders graduate program. The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, housed in the School of Communication, offers one graduate degree program in two modalities: an on-campus Communication Disorders Master of Science (MS) and an online Communication Disorders MS.

Students in the on-campus program complete part of their clinical work at the College’s Robbins Center, which provides evaluation and treatment for children and adults with communication disorders and differences. This experience is augmented by clinical fieldwork at any of more than 100 clinical sites in the Greater Boston area.

Our team of dedicated placement specialists support the distance education students in securing local clinical placement sites where they experience hands-on clinical training.

Master of Science in Communication Disorders

Our on-campus Communication Disorders MS program provides students with the career-ready skills and hands-on experience they need to make an immediate impact on the lives of people living with communication, speech, language, swallowing, and hearing disorders. Designed for students interested in pursuing certification and licensure in speech-language pathology, this program gives students the chance to apply developmental, cognitive, psychosocial, behavioral, and medical models to the assessment and treatment of a broad range of communication disorders and differences.

Master of Science in Communication Disorders (Online)

The distance education modality of our graduate program allows students to earn a Communication Disorders MS without attending classes on campus. Students will complete hands-on training at local sites in their area overseen by Emerson’s supported clinical supervisors. Our family-centered approach to speech-language pathology education prepares students to pursue licensure as a generalist practitioner, and our curriculum empowers students to serve clients of all ages while supporting their families and caregivers throughout treatment.

The Master of Science (M.S.) education program in speech-language pathology (residential and distance education) at Emerson College is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, 2200 Research Boulevard, #310, Rockville, MD 20850, 800-498-2071 or 301-296-5700.
